Check your resume for common ATS issues
Paste the text of your resume and run the ATS-readiness check. It looks for the contact details, section headings, dates, bullets, length and formatting signals that applicant tracking systems and recruiters rely on, then explains what to fix. It's a check, not a guarantee: different applicant tracking systems parse resumes differently, and this tool can't predict how a particular employer's system will read yours.
What makes a resume ATS friendly?
- Standard section headings such as Summary, Work Experience, Education and Skills.
- Contact details as plain text at the top, not inside a header or image.
- A single-column layout without tables, text boxes or graphics holding key information.
- Clear job titles, company names and dates for each role.
- Short bullet points and plain, common fonts.
- Saved as a .docx or text-based PDF unless the application asks for something else.
How ATS systems read resumes
An applicant tracking system extracts the text from your file and sorts it into fields such as name, job titles, dates, education and skills. Recruiters then search and filter candidates, often by keywords from the job posting. If the system can't extract your text cleanly, parts of your experience may be missing when a person finally looks.
Common ATS resume problems
- Two-column templates that scramble the reading order.
- Creative headings like "Where I've Been" instead of "Work Experience".
- Skills shown as icons, charts or rating bars.
- Important details placed in the document header or footer.
- Missing dates, or dates in inconsistent formats.
Match your resume to a job description
Switch to the Job Description Match tab and paste both texts. You'll see the terms you share, relevant terms from the posting that don't appear in your resume, and an approximate text-match percentage. That percentage only reflects word overlap. It isn't a hiring, interview or employer score.
How to use resume keywords naturally
- Add a missing term only if it's true for you.
- Use the posting's exact wording for skills and tools where it fits, such as "project management" rather than a synonym.
- Put keywords in context inside real accomplishments, not a hidden list.
- Mirror the job title where it honestly matches your experience.
- Tailor your summary and top bullets for each application.
How to use it
- 01
Copy the text of your resume and paste it into the box.
- 02
Run the check to see formatting and content findings you can act on.
- 03
Switch to the second tab, add a job posting, and compare the wording.
Good to know
- This checker looks for common formatting and content issues. Different applicant tracking systems may interpret resumes differently, so treat this as a readability review rather than a pass or fail.
- The keyword comparison counts the most repeated terms in the posting. It says nothing about hiring chances.
- Never add skills you don’t have to raise the match number — it fails at the interview.
- PDF upload isn’t supported yet. Pasting text also keeps the file off any server, including ours.
Common questions
Will this tell me if my resume passes ATS?
No tool can promise that. Each company configures its system differently. This is an ATS readiness check that flags issues known to cause parsing problems.
Is my resume uploaded anywhere?
No. The text stays in your browser and the analysis runs on your device.
What does the match percentage mean?
It is the share of the job posting’s most repeated meaningful terms that also appear in your resume. It is a wording comparison only.
Can I upload a PDF?
Not in this version. Open the file, select all the text and paste it in.
